I wanted to let you know about something that might be happening on 19 March, 2014. I’m having a little trouble getting my webhosting fees together to renew my hosting for another year so CHRISTOPHER MELONI ONLINE will be going dark on that date, unless I get an influx of donations before then. I won’t be able to get it back up for two weeks until I get paid. If you’d like to donate something to help me out please feel free to scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit the donate button in the sidebar in the “Site Info/Disclaimer & Donate” area. This is the first time I’ve had to ask for donations to keep us up, but I thought I’d throw out the bone. Thanks to anyone willing to help out. I’m also working on getting the UNABRIDGED MEDIA site back up and running. The Fanlisting will also be going dark until I can get everything back up and running. Please be patient.

I also wanted to say this, I thought I’d have some fantastic news for you regarding the future of this site other than the fact it will be offline for a short period of time, however, that fantastic news has fallen through. That news was that I was contacted by representation for Christopher Meloni about my assisting in creating Chris’ official website. Marcello Davis then wrote to me about UNABRIDGED becoming Chris’ official site, however, after about a month’s silence I sent an email Marcello Davis and Trace Podewell regarding if I was still “on the team” a couple of weeks ago and so far I’ve received no reply. It seems as if that has fallen through. So after the site is back online I want to let you know that I will be following Chris through his work on SURVIVING JACK as well as getting as much of the backlog I have regarding his work on LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT as well as a huge whack of event images I have from roughly 1990 through to present, but then I will be only updating as time permits. I have had a great deal of personal issues that have arisen and I won’t be able to update as often as I’d like, but the site will remain online for you.

A Huge Update Plus A Change of Direction for UNABRIDGED Coming
christopher meloni online    November 9, 2013    0 comments

I’m hoping in the next couple to three days to get some images up in the gallery for you guys before a change of direction comes for this site. I have a lot of event images I’ve decided I’m not going to tag given the immense amount of them. I also have a lot of stills and promo pics to add from Chris’ twelve years as Det. Elliot Stabler from LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT I really want to complete. The change for this site will be coming toward the end of week. You’ll know when it happens. I’m hoping you’ll love what is coming up. Stay tuned.

“Get Used to “Law & Order: SVU” Without Stabler”

An article that pretty much sums up my feelings on SVU without Chris. It’s from a British site where they are just getting season 13 without Stabler.

Get used to Law&Order without Stabler

By Munya Vomo

We are IN the new season of Law & Order Special Victims Unit and any fan would know what the sad news is: Detective Elliot Stabler is missing in action. It seems the talented Christopher Meloni, who plays Stabler, is going to be missing for the entire season and not just for one or two episodes.

In the last season we saw the ever controversial lawman shoot at a young girl who was waving a gun in public. We were led to believe that, being a man of conscience, Stabler had retired because he felt bad.

It was not the closure we thought we would get, but perhaps given the real reason Meloni left, there was no time to say a proper goodbye. Several reports point out that the talented actor could not come to an agreement when it came to his new contract. This is simplified as Meloni may have wanted a raise and the producers were not hearing any of that, and he threatened to leave – and they said by all means.

It is almost like the situation at Generations right now. In showbiz, the show must go on and no one is bigger than the show.

That only works for soapies because of the loose and slow pace of the storytelling process. It gives the viewer time to adjust to the newly introduced characters. In drama series the pace is much faster. In action series, we meet the principal characters from the onset and it is here where we decide whether we like them or not.

So as it stands we can demarcate between the people who feature in Law & Order, Law & Order SVU and Law & Order UK. Each title has its team and that forms part of its identity. If you were to buy older SVU DVD sets you would see Meloni and Mariska Hargitay on the cover – they are the faces we associate with the series.

It is easier to remove a character from a group as they do on Grey’s Anatomy, but when a show has a pair of actors, when one is gone it is hard to move on. Take the Charlie Sheen situation in Two and a Half Men: as talented as Ashton Kutcher is, he is not Sheen. The same goes for Stabler’s replacement, Danny Pino. He is like that perfect white denture where there was once a front tooth; he’ll work but the “smile” will never be the same.

Just found a new article on SVU, thought I’d share. Hope, as always, springs eternal.

I’m Still Not Over… Benson and Stabler never getting together on ‘Law & Order: SVU’

By Samantha Highfill on Sep 30, 2013 at 3:38PM

Like most television addicts, I am a big ‘shipper. I root hard for the couples I love. I cheered for Friends‘ Ross and Rachel, for ER‘s Carter and Abby, for Friday Night Lights‘ Tim and Lyla, for The O.C.’s Ryan and Marissa, and the list goes on. Confession: I even cheered for Xena and Hercules. But looking back through the years, I realized that there has rarely been a time when I genuinely went down with my ship, as they say. Sure, Carter and Abby didn’t make it, but they always had their flirtation. Rachel, of course, got off the plane, and even though Marissa died, she was still Ryan’s last thought as he attempted to move on (into bachelorhood). Oh and in case you’re wondering, I’m still holding out hope for Tim and Lyla.

But there has been one ‘ship that I have been fighting to keep afloat for years now, and I refuse to let it sink. Refuse! I’m talking about Law & Order: SVU‘s longest tension-filled relationship between onetime partners Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson.

I don’t know how the show did it, but for years, it kept me intrigued with nothing but longing glances, swoon-worthy hugs, and late-night conversations. For most other shows, I probably would have given up at some point, but there was just something about Benson and Stabler … and it was more than just the fact that Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni have amazing chemistry (though that helped).

Benson and Stabler were partners in every meaning of the word. These two were willing to die for each other; they were clearly attracted to each other; and each of them was the other’s shoulder to cry on. Even when Stabler was married, he was work-married to Benson, which is where he spent about 97 percent of his time. And even now that Stabler’s not on the show anymore, in last week’s premiere, he was the person Benson started talking about when she was kidnapped by a crazy man. Their love cannot be stopped!

I will admit that I have not seen every episode of Law & Order: SVU, so please correct me if I’m wrong (and tell me specifics, so I can watch!), but based on my research, the duo never so much as kissed. Not even a little peck on the lips! These two had/have the most (annoyingly) ridiculous self-control I’ve ever witnessed, real or fictional. Although, the one hug in the hallway — the one where Stabler ran to her — was better than any kiss I’ve ever seen. However, I would like to clarify that as great as the hugs have been, I still want to see an actual kiss. I need to see an actual kiss. This ‘ship cannot sink.

Look, I get that Benson and Stabler were trying to be professional, and that their love for each other sometimes got in the way of good police work (and there was the on-again, off-again infidelity issue), but if this series ends after 15-plus seasons, and these two don’t end up together, I will never get over it. I know Stabler’s no longer on the show, but if that man does not show up in the series finale (or before then), I might lose my mind. Or maybe Benson retires too, so now there’s no job standing in their way?!

I don’t really care how it happens so long as this hug-filled relationship is taken to the next level. Bottom line: No two people can have that much self-restraint (or self-hatred) for that long. They have to give in eventually. Right? Right?!

My take:

I never saw the Stabler/Benson dynamic as being the least bit romantic. I always saw it as having each others backs. Stabler knew Benson would be there to make sure he went home to Kathy and the kids each night. And Benson knew what was important to Elliot. I never got that romantic vibe with them. Ever! I understand the need to ‘ship’. Just not when the emphasis was placed so heavily on Stabler’s need for the ‘stability’ of his family. He loved his wife and appreciated it when Benson was there for Kathy in Paternity where she went into labour after the car accident. That’s what the hug was for. That acknowledgement that Olivia had his back when it came to his wife and her safety, hence Benson telling him she’d take Kathy to her appointment. But that’s my opinion. I know the die hard shippers don’t care for the rationale behind the non-shippers clear thinking.
