Chris has signed to star in the WGN series UNDERGROUND. No word on his character, but it’s to be a limited run series with ten episodes. More below.
Christopher Meloni to Star in WGN America’s Straight-to-Series Slave Drama ‘Underground’
WGN America is going straight-to-series with Underground, tapping Christopher Meloni to star in the slave drama.
Additionally, Friday Night Lights alum Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge (Rectify) and Jessica De Gouw (Arrow, Dracula) will join the cast of the 10-episode drama. Anthony Hemingway (The Wire, Treme) will direct the first two episodes.
The L.A.-based cable network first announced it was developing Underground in August, when it went straight to series with Outsiders, its Appalachia-set 13-episode series.
From creator Misha Green (Sons of Anarchy) and Joe Pokaski (Heroes), the Sony Pictures Television and Tribune Studios entry follows the slaves who set foot on the fabled Underground Railroad, the secret network of men and women who risked their lives aiding them and the mercenaries tasked with hunting them down at any cost. Executive producers include Green, Pokaski, Weed Road Pictures’ Akiva Goldsman, Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures.

Law & Order: SVU alum Meloni — who marks his return to drama following last season’s short-lived comedy Surviving Jack — will play August, a secretive mercenary who walks a tightrope between survival and morality. Meloni had been getting multiple pilot offers this season, for both drama and comedy.
Smollett-Bell (Parenthood) will play Rosalee, a shy house slave with a powerful inner strength and courage; Hodge is set as Noah, a brave and clever slave on the plantation with dreams of freedom and a dangerous plan to escape; and De Gouw will portray Elizabeth, a socialite who shares her husband’s abolitionist ideals. Additional castings are expected to be announced. Production begins in the spring for a 2016 premiere.
Underground marks WGN America’s fifth straight-to-series order since the national cable network expanded into original scripted fare last year. It joins a roster of dramas including the second seasons of Salem and Manhattan — returning in April and the fall, respectively — as well as Outsiders (also from SPT) and is in preproduction on Ten Commandments.
Meloni is repped by Gersh and Industry Entertainment; Smollett-Bell is with ICM Partners, Storefront Entertainment and Fox Rothschild; Hodge is with Paradigm and Priluck; and De Gouw with UTA, RGM Artists, KTM Artist Group and Jackoway Tyerman.
Just like the title says, Chris is done with SVU. At the WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD premiere, Chris has more or less confirmed he’s over SVU. While Mariska Hargitay (Det. Olivia Benson) keeps the buzz going, Chris decided to let that part of his life go. I’m glad for him. It’s about time. Considering the lacklustre ratings and the abysmal direction of the show I’d have to say there is no more room for Chris on this disaster. Sorry to have to say this but the original theme this show had has been given up in favour of idiot regurgitations of previous seasons. There’s nothing new to give after 16 seasons. With Warren Leight’s decision to to not bring back fan favourites like Stephanie March (Alexandra Cabot), Diane Neal (Casey Novak) and the departures of Dann Florek (Don Cragen) and Richard Belzer (John Munch) you might as well stick a fork in it. Here’s the article.
‘SVU': Chris Meloni Reveals If He’ll Return
October 22, 2014 11:29 AM EDT
Chris Meloni giveth, and he taketh away!
After the actor’s former “Law & Order: SVU” co-star Mariska Hargitay told Access Hollywood she thinks Chris should return to the show as Sgt. Benson’s “baby daddy,” Chris Tweeted that he’d be up for it.
However, when we caught up with him in Los Angeles on Tuesday night and asked if any progress had been made on a Det. Stabler “SVU” return, Chris dashed our hopes into a million tiny pieces.
“I think the ship has sailed,” Chris told Access, shaking his head, at the “White Bird in a Blizzard” premiere in Hollywood. “I think that part of my life is done.”
The actor said “SVU” fans get so excited about any hint of a possible Benson/Stabler reunion that he has to be careful what he says.

“I try to joke about it, but obviously I can’t,” he said.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, during a September appearance on Access Hollywood Live, Mariska said she stays in touch with Chris and that she’s been “trying” to get her ex-partner back on the show.
The actress joked that Stabler could come back as her “baby daddy” for her foster baby Noah this season, and Chris responded via Twitter and Facebook.
“Baby daddy for Benson? Why not, I’ve done it enough times for Hargitay,” the actor Tweeted at the time, along with a link to our Mariska story.
Here is Chris’ episode of VEEP where he plays the part of Ray, the personal trainer to Julia Louis Dreyfus’ character. He added much needed…er, um up-front intensity? Good work as always Chris. The ending is how shall I say, purely Chris.
Just as the title says. Chris and his son Dante attended the world premiere of the new version of Godzilla. Dante is looking like a little Chris. The world awaits and quakes. Just kidding. Some of the images were donated to UNABRIDGED by AliKat from Kit Harington Fans and we thank her for her kind contribution.
EVENT: 05/09/2014 – Premiere Of Warner Bros. Pictures And Legendary Picture’s “Godzilla” – Arrivals
Here is the final episode of the series. Sad really. I was hypercritical of FOX to begin with. They don’t have the greatest track record when committing to their series. They don’t give enough time for the viewers to get into the program before they begin taking the axe. Anyway, another funny episode and Chris again in rare form.
SCREENCAPS: SURVIVING JACK – E1X07 PARENTS JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND
Why am I not surprised by this? I knew as soon as I found out SURVIVING JACK was going to be on FOX it didn’t stand a chance. None of the shows I’ve loved that have aired on this network have ever lasted more than a half a season or a full season. A show called New Amsterdam starring Game of Thrones hottie Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was cancelled after just eight episodes. It didn’t even get a finale. Now of course the speculation is going to start running rampant that with that cancellation and the renewal of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT for a sixteenth season, Chris will be returning as Det. Elliot Stabler. While I would like it to happen if not to see Chris on familiar ground, I’d only want it if he wants it. And let’s not forget those idiotic E&O shippers who cannot seem to understand Elliot loves his wife and kids. So go ahead, get all girlie giddy with it.
Fox Cancels ‘Dads,’ ‘Enlisted,’ ‘Surviving Jack’ and ‘Rake’
Fox has given the ax to three freshman comedies: “Dads,” “Surviving Jack” and “Enlisted.”
Drama “Rake,” starring Greg Kinnear, was also formally cancelled on Wednesday, as expected.
The network has ordered four new comedies for the coming season, and is expected to pick up at least one more, “Cabot College,” exec produced by “30 Rock” duo Tina Fey and Robert Carlock.
“Dads” (pictured), from 20th Century Fox TV, bowed with the highest profile, coming from the Seth MacFarlane shop and “Ted” writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The show had a tough assignment in opening Fox’s Tuesday lineup in the 8 p.m. slot.
“Surviving Jack,” starring Chris Meloni, was a late midseason entry from Warner Bros. TV and Bill Lawrence’s banner.
“Enlisted,” also from 20th TV, had the strongest critical response of the three, drawing praise for its portrayal of the unique pressures on families in the military. Series was created by Kevin Biegel.
So far, Fox has given series greenlights to four new comedies, including and animated entry from MacFarlane, “Bordertown” (20th TV) and an ensembler led by “Saturday Night Live” vet John Mulaney from Universla TV.
“Weird Loners” (20th TV) is about a group of commitment-phobic people who wind up living in the same apartment building. And “Last Man on Earth” (20th TV) stars Will Forte.
Wednesday’s cancellations make “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” the only freshman comedy from Fox’s 2013-14 slate to get a renewal.
